The short version
- Nook makes no network connections. Not the app, not the relay.
- There is no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting, no account and no sign-in.
- Everything Nook keeps is on your own computer.
- Nook sets no cookies, and neither does this website.
- Third-party services in the app: none.
What the Nook app does with your data
Nook shows your Claude Code sessions. To do that, Claude Code runs a small relay program (nook-hook.exe) on each hook event. The relay passes the event to the Nook app over a local named pipe that only your Windows account can open. To show an event the relay may read a little context: the end of the session’s transcript (its title and last message), the file an edit targets and the output of a command. That goes only to the app, only over the local pipe, and stays in memory. It is not sent anywhere else, and it is not written to the log.
What is stored locally
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Preferences (shortcuts, display, theme, visibility) | %APPDATA%\Nook\settings.json |
| Shelf data: to-dos, notes, reminders, a running timer, the project list | %APPDATA%\Nook\shelf.json |
| The relay program | %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nook\bin\nook-hook.exe |
| A small log of event names and decisions (never content) | %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nook\nook.log |
You can delete these at any time. The uninstaller removes the relay and the log; delete the %APPDATA%\Nook folder to remove your preferences and Shelf data. Nothing here identifies you, and none of it leaves your machine.
Files of yours that Nook edits
Only when you ask, and only after a preview and a click, Nook edits %USERPROFILE%\.claude\settings.json (to install or remove its hooks and the optional usage status line) and, if you choose the optional reply format, CLAUDE.md, and, if you turn on Cursor sessions, ~/.cursor/hooks.json. Each edit takes a dated backup first and touches only Nook’s own entries. See How Nook talks to Claude Code.
Camera (Mirror)
The Mirror widget uses your camera only while Mirror is open. It stops the moment Mirror closes, the island folds or hides, or you leave the Shelf. Nothing is recorded, no audio is used, nothing is saved and nothing is sent anywhere. Windows asks for camera permission, and you can withdraw it in Windows Settings at any time.
Third parties
The app uses none. One note: Nook’s window is drawn by WebView2, a Microsoft component that Microsoft updates outside Nook’s control. Nook does not use it to load anything from the internet.
This website
This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking, so there is no cookie banner. To display the page it loads a typeface from Google Fonts and a small scrolling script from the jsDelivr CDN, and it is served by its hosting provider (GitHub Pages or a similar static host). Those services can see your IP address and the usual details your browser sends, under their own privacy policies; this site does not receive that data. Your light or dark choice is saved in your own browser’s local storage and never leaves it. Links to GitHub, LinkedIn, X and other sites are governed by those sites’ policies once you follow them.
Children and changes
Nook collects no personal data from anyone, including children. If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the previous text stays in the public history of the repository.
